Police confirm Genting Casino’s closure

KUANTAN, May 25 (Xinhua) — Following a police check last night, Bentong police chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar confirmed the closure of Genting Highlands casino operations.

According to Zaiham, the inspection at around 11 p.m. was conducted to ensure that the casino centre operator completely closed its operations in accordance with the Finance Ministry’s directive.

“They have followed the closure directive,” he said during a statement issued here.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Senior Minister (Security Cluster), previously stated that the closure order was issued to Genting management last Friday upon being informed that the casino had been open.

On May 7, the Health Ministry affirmed the existence of a new cluster in Kedah as a result of tourism activities, in which an interstate tour trip from Alor Setar to Genting Highlands by a registered tour company in mid-April created a Covid-19 cluster.

Meanwhile, Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan has asked the public to help them by filing complaints if there are cases of non-compliance with the tight regulations on the standard operating procedure of the movement control order (MCO) 3.0, which went into effect today.

This includes companies and industries permitted to operate from workplaces during the MCO 3.0 period adhering to total attendance and operating hours in the office.

“We would not reveal the complainant’s identity, and anonymous complaints will be investigated as well.” They (complainants) only need to contact the district police headquarters’ operations room or the district disaster operations control center,” he added. Bernama —
